Christina, Charley’s adopted mother, is happy to report that Charley’s acupuncture treatments seem to be helping him; she sees an improvement in his personality. He goes once a week for a half hour treatment, then its home for his physical therapy. Let’s hope all this hard work with Charley will make him pain free and able to move around easier. The veterinarian that is treating him found a sore on the inside of his leg. Christina puts a special salve on his wound daily then he has to wear a cone when she leaves for work so he won’t lick it off. Good news, Charley just turned 7 and Christina threw him a birthday party! Five of his best doggy friends were all present. She had a special doggy cake made for him. Christina said “I love him so much”. With all the time she needs to care for him, we know she loves him very much. Thank you for your support of Charley. Thank you Christina for your love of Charley.

August 2010: During the summer months Charley finds it difficult not to get overexcited and playful. So to keep him cool his adopted mother, Christina, took him to the pool for the first time. She held him tight since this was a new experience for Charley. She was surprise how calm he was considering he was never in a pool before. Sometimes he over exerts himself, and his family makes sure to provide him with some pain medication to help alleviate any discomfort he may have with his legs. Then at the end of the day he will curl up with Oreo to rest and perhaps take a nap together.
September 2010: We are happy to report that Charley is in very good health. He was at the Animal League recently for a photo shoot and was as handsome as ever. His adopted mother, Christina, was happy to bring him in and show him off. It is a stressful time when he has to leave the security of his home, but all in all we could see he liked being the center of attention. The camera crew was so patient with him. We are happy that Charley is in a loving home.
October 2010: Charley is a very handsome black Labrador mutt-i-gree (mixed breed dog) and we are happy to report that he in good health. Now with the cooler weather here, he spends more time in the backyard under the shade of his favorite tree. He adores his adopted mother Christina. When she comes home from work, he’ll yelp until she comes over to pet and hug him. Charley is eating well and enjoying all that life has to offer.
March 2010 Update: Charley continues to enjoy all the affection he receives from his adopted family. Because of the paralysis in his hind legs, Charley can’t play as much as the other dogs. We are thankful he likes to spend most of his time lying around the house. From time to time Charley tries to play with the other two dogs in the house, Rocky and Oreo. The medication he receives daily prevents him from feeling any pain in his legs so he’s able to move around as much as possible. Sometimes the dogs don’t always get along, but our wonderful Charley makes the effort to be friends with everyone.
April 2010 Update: Our dear, sweet Charley is truly loved by his adopted family and continues to enjoy all the affection from his family and friends. Although playmate dogs Rocky and Oreo don’t always get along, Charley tries to fit in with them both. The medication he receives daily helps him cope with any pain he might be having in his legs as he moves around. He likes to spend a lot of time resting and relaxing at home.
Charley’s adopted mother is happy to report his last visit to the veterinarian went very well and there’s nothing new to report medically. However, at home, Charley has become more demanding – he’s barking when he wants goodies. He and the other dogs in the house love taking turns steeling the toys from each other and running all around. We are so glad Charley is living in a happy home. He is doing as well as can be expected considering the trouble he has walking and although it is difficult for Charley to get around, he is always in good spirits. He wags his tail when he receives attention and pretty much gets anything he wants when he flashes his puppy dog eyes – he’s irresistible!
This fall season couldn’t’ be a better time for Charley. When out in the yard Charley has a pile of leaves to lie in as his foster siblings jump around him. Charley is sight for sore eyes when red, orange and yellow leaves pop with color as they fall from the trees and land on top of his ebony fur. Although Charley can’t hop around in the leaves like his foster siblings, he seems to love his time outside and the fresh crisp autumn air.
